A memorable decade - now you pick the team

Paul Crichton - one of the six goalkeeper choices
Ten years ago we were celebrating, if celebrating is the most appropriate choice of word, an eleven game unbeaten run that had seen us escape the clutches of the basement division. We'd won five and drawn six of those games and I still shudder at the thought of that early 2-0 lead Macclesfield took against us in the first of those wins.

Since then, although it hasn't all been smooth running, we've steadily climbed the ladder of English football. A promotion at Scunthorpe nine years ago gave us nine years in what is now the Championship.

I'm sure as we left Glanford Park we would have been delighted if someone had told us that we would stay up for nine years. But we've moved onwards and upwards, we've had cup runs, we've beaten such as Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs on the way and now we are ready for Premier League football.

No fewer than 122 players have pulled on the Burnley shirt during those ten years and now we are asking you to choose your favourites. In a series of voting polls over the next few weeks you will be able to choose a player for each position.

Today we start with the goalkeeper and there are six players to choose from in Paul Crichton, Nik Michopoulos, Marlon Beresford, Brian Jensen, Danny Coyne and Gabor Kiraly. Lee Grant, Mike Pollitt and Diego Penny have also donned the goalkeeper's jersey during that time but didn't play enough games to be considered.

The voting poll is in the usual place on the front page of the site so get voting and next week, with a goalkeeper in place, we'll start choosing our full backs.
