A Longer stay at Oakwell

He had a mixed start to his loan. He joined them on 20th November and went straight into the team for an away game at Oldham. It was a dramatic first game for them; with it heading for a 1-1 draw he scored a winning in the 89th minute.

But his luck soon turned. Just three days later, in a 3-2 defeat at Peterborough, he was sent off by referee Nick Kinseley and landed himself with a three match ban. That's allowed him to play just once more last weekend when he lined up in the centre of the Barnsley defence in a 2-0 home defeat against Wigan.

Barnsley boss Lee Johnson hasn't hesitated in keeping him for a further month. He said today: "We're very pleased with this news. He's a big lad, quick enough and decent enough on the ball. He's enjoyed being here, we've enjoyed having him and we're delighted to be keeping him.

"He's quite a calming figure in and around the place and on the pitch. He's that type of player where you know what he's going to do. He's solid in his game and clears things that need to be cleared."

Long said of the extension: "I'm looking forward to it. The idea is to get some proper minutes into me and do well. It's been frustrating because sometimes with a three game ban it can be over in a week with Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, but it's been three Saturdays so it's been tough.

"It's been hard doing the training and not being able to play. I just did that for ten months. Every player wants to play games, that's why we play football. Thankfully I'm back now and I can play some games."
