Rishton Golf Cup - venue for yesterday's Ryder Cup

What started as an attempt to raise £200 to sponsor one youth team player for the season quickly snowballed into a year long campaign, fifteen months to be exact, that has seen over £8,000 already spent on much needed equipment. The smartboard system was followed by power weights, an ice making machine and a set of small goals.

In the very near future we will be funding much needed rehab equipment, a library of coaching DVDs, books and CDs and a platform to assist with the filming of games at Gawthorpe. The rest of the money will be used to fund development centres in Wyke, West Yorkshire and Blackpool.

That's not the end of the fundraising. The much enjoyed year will in effect continue under the name of the Clarets Mad Youth Foundation. Already we have a cricket match organised for late July at Lowerhouse Cricket Cup, and there will be further events along the way including a special evening with Barry Kilby and Brendan Flood.

Centre of Excellence coaches Andy Farrell and Brian Taylor both took part in the golf yesterday, both ending in the losing team in the Ryder Cup format. Youth coach Terry Pashley and the club's PR manager Darren Bentley were members of the winning Claret team.

It was Pash who spoke on behalf of the club at the end of presentation to thank everyone for their support over the last year.
