Martin Heys, Martin Bell and John Robertson present the cheque for £6,000 to Vince Overson

Head of Youth Development Vince Overson was there to accept the cheque from Martin Heys, Martin Bell and John Robertson and all three of them were sporting their Custard World Shirts which promote the Year of the Youth campaign.

That first £6,000 has been to provide the youth development team with a smartboard system to aid player development within the entire youth set up including the Centre of Excellence, and the system has been in place at the training ground at Gawthorpe since the beginning of pre-season training.

A further £2,355 has already gone to the club to provide further items including a set of small goals, ice making equipment for the treatment of injuries, and power weights, whilst we are already in discussion regarding the purchase of further items.

Vince said on Saturday: “A word of thanks to Clarets Mad for their cheque for £6,000 towards youth development. The fund raising effort by this dedicated band of supporters has been remarkable and shows the strength of feeling for the youth system at Turf Moor.

“We have already dedicated much of this cash to providing equipment that will allow us to improve our teaching methods. But with more to come, rest assured this will make a significant difference to the way we work. Once again, thank you.”
