Madiham is big success

There was no problem with the weather this week, although in true Soccer AM style we as we arrived at the Arbories there was light drizzle that was holding up the start of the Ribblesdale League cricket match next door.

For Clarets Mad there were no such delays, the players made their way to the dressing rooms, whilst the spectators visited the bar, that was apart from Big Dave who was becoming somewhat threatening on the gate with his bucket.

The teams came out on cue, led by the mascots and the hastily arranged referee replacement, and lined up for the team photographs before the game got underway in front of a healthy crowd.

We had to wait until the thirteenth minute for the first excitement. That was when Damo went down under a challenge in the box and saw the referee point to the spot. He got up to convert the penalty himself, bringing with it more controversy. Jdrobbo, in goal at the other end of the pitch was dancing with delight with the news that he had won the Golden Goal competition, and with it £80, but it was not the case, he was out by seconds.

The players all did well, and the score is hardly relevant, but my team won 6-3 (I thought it was seven) and the game ended with another controversial moment with Inchy netting in the very last minute of the game and so robbing the Clarets Mad site editor of £20 in the competition for the last goal, the previous goal was scored in the 83rd minute.

At the final whistle the players shook hands and made their way to the dressing rooms whilst the spectators, those not already there, made their way to the bar. And they were joined by the players shortly afterwards as everyone tucked into the pie and peas. There were no autograph books around, although the players would have been keen to sign.

It was another fantastic Clarets Mad day out, there was more money raised for Year of the Youth and already plans are in place for Clarets Madiham II in 2007.

Again our thanks to everyone involved, the players, the spectators, Big Dave for his threatening qualities with the collecting bucket, and above all to Padiham Football Club for all their help.

Below are some pictures from the day – with thanks to dressinggownclaret for providing some of the pictures.
