It couldn't have been much worse, Gillingham at the Priestfield, so far away that when Stan Ternent took the job there in 2004/05 season he suggested their local rivals were Paris St Germain.
Peter, with other Burnley fans, made it in time for a standing ovation on the pitch and now it is the turn of Dan Black, Andrew Greaves, Phil Simpson and the Mackie twins Toby and Tom.
Dan, Andrew and Phil are all journalists and all three have worked at the Burnley Express at one time or another, Dan still does. Toby and Tom are both in retail, Toby with JJB whilst brother Tom is retail manager at Burnley Football Club.
Four of the lads will be raising money for Pendleside Hospice, and I don't think anyone could suggest that's not a very worthy cause and Tom, who has been a firm supporter of the Clarets Mad Youth Foundation, has pledged to raise money to help our cause of supporting youth development at Turf Moor as the links between the club and Clarets Mad continue to strengthen.
Their walk, entitled 'Burnley to Britannia: The Long Way Down' will start on the Thursday, two days before the game, and we'll be keeping up with them throughout their journey, a somewhat shorter one than their predecessors had to contend with in 1981.
I think we should all be very proud of these lads, giving up their time and probably their feet to raise money in such a way.
If you want to sponsor Tom you can do so by paying your money directly to the Clarets Mad Youth Foundation.
