Clarets Mad collect Adam Kay's shirt

It's just over three years now since we first launched Year of the Youth at the Bridge Bier Huis with Steve Cotterill and Vince Overson representing the club. Since then we've raised over £28,500 and been able to help our youth development team with a number of projects.

Andy and Ann Hodson (Mr & Mrs Dushanbe) represented us this year and with Adam currently out on loan at Accrington it was first team player Chris Eagles who stood in to present the shirt to them as you can see on the photograph above.

A strong youth development system at Burnley Football Club is so vital and I think we can all see the improvement in the last few years with players coming through and representing the first team with Jay Rodriguez and Alex MacDonald the two most recent.

Earlier this month there was some terrific news with five of the current crop of apprentices having been offered professional terms. Even better was the news that three of the five had been with the club since the age of nine having come through all the centre of excellence teams.

Clarets Mad are proud to be involved in such a positive way and delighted that we have been able to make a small contribution over the last three years and hope very much that we can continue to support our youth system for many more years to come.

A big thanks to Andy and Ann, our guests, to Chris Eagles and to those at the club who looked after our guests so well on Saturday.

The shirt will be auctioned at the Bad Beat Banquet on the evening of Saturday 2nd May.
