The Player of the Year Evening

Last updated : 05 April 2006 By Tony Scholes

This is the second year the groups have organised their own event and it promises to be a special evening along with the manager, his staff and the players, when maybe this year the prizes will not be dominated by just a couple of players.

Last year central defenders John McGreal and Gary Cahill run off with so many of the awards but there were also trophies for captain Frank Sinclair, goalkeeper Brian Jensen and midfielder Tony Grant whilst all the Goal of the Season awards were won by Micah Hyde – and I can tell you it was not for his goal on the opening day of the season against Sheffield United.

The evening will be hosted by the lifelong Claret who has become well known to us all for his pre-match entertainment at Turf Moor - none other than Jeff Brown.

As last year there will be a special guest and this year it is former Claret of the 1960s and 1970s, and appropriately during our Year of the Youth a member of the 1968 FA Youth Cup winning side, none other than Steve Kindon.

Already twelve of our groups have confirmed, including the recently formed West Yorkshire Clarets who will present three awards. Tickets cost just £3 including supper but please contact your own supporters club who each have an allocation of tickets.
