We've got a winner at last in the FA Cup

Bower Fold - home of new opponents Stalybridge Celtic

The two sides had met on Saturday at Brig and it took a goal four minutes from time to give the home side a draw. However, it was Warrington who came out on top when the sides met again at Cantilever Park three days later.

Warrington took the lead on 14 minutes through Rob Hardwick and that lead was doubled just past the half hour although it could prove to be a costly goal. Leading scorer Tony Evans slid in to convert but sustained a knee injury in doing so and was immediately substituted.

By half time Phil Denney had pulled one back for Bamber Bridge but Mike Duffy restored the two goal advantage early in the second half and Hardwick got his second with 25 minutes to go to give Warrington a 4-1 advantage.

There was just one more goal for the crowd of 238 to enjoy, and it was no more than a consolation when Darren Green scored a second for Bamber Bridge.

So eventually, after seeing the immediate defeats of Padiham, Staveley Miners Welfare and Parkgate, we've got a winner. Warrington Town have made an excellent start to the season and remain unbeaten in twelve league and cup games, although how long they will remain in the FA Cup remains to be seen.

They are at home now in the Third Round Qualifying but must face Blue Square Bet North club Stalybridge Celtic who on the same night won their replay 2-1 against Alfreton Town, but it went to extra time.

Kristian Platt gave Celtic the lead four minutes before half time but a Liam Hearn goal on 79 minutes took it into extra time when substitute Lloyd Ellams scored the decisive goal with five minutes remaining.
