Off to Rotherham for the FA Cup

Staveley Miners Welfare were our team in the Preliminary Round after they had defeated Padiham four weeks ago, but they too went out, beaten 3-1 by Parkgate with William Senior hitting a hat trick.

Parkgate had previously recorded a 2-0 win at Ashton Athletic, so are now looking forward to their first home game in the competition this season.

They were Koolsport League Premier Division leaders when they faced Staveley MW but have now dropped to fourth place in the table, although they do have games in hand on the clubs above them and a win would take them top again.

Since winning that cup tie they've played twice and won them both. They won 4-2 against Congleton Town in the FA Vase and in midweek recorded a 3-0 home win against Arnold Town in the League so they go into tomorrow's game in good form.

Opponents Warrington Town play in the Evo-Stik League First Division North and, like Parkgate, are currently fourth in the table. They entered the FA Cup one round later and won through to this week's game with a 2-1 win at Bootle.

They too go into the game in good form and in midweek beat my old non-league team Lancaster City 4-0 at the Giant Axe, Tony Evans hitting a hat trick.

So it is a game between two in form teams; The Steelmen (Parkgate) v The Wire (Warrington Town) at the Roundwood Sports Complex this Saturday with kick off at 3:00 p.m. Which of them will be our team in the Second Round Qualifying on Saturday 25th September?

One game that won't be played this weekend, that between Kingstonian and Croydon Athletic. This week Croydon Athletic asked for permission to withdraw from the FA Cup and Kingstonian will therefore have a walkover into the Second Round Qualifying.
