Profile by Dave Blackburn

The loan signing of Aston Villa youngster Peter Whittingham in February 2005 did not inspire the greatest of joy amongst Burnley fans. It was hard to argue against the signing of a midfielder being important, but a youngster on a one month loan was not perhaps the most encouraging of signings.

Whittingham however, enjoyed a good debut at Crewe in a fixture rearranged from Boxing Day, indeed he played a part in Burnley's only goal in a 1-1 draw. He went on to make a further 8 appearances for the Clarets, including the FA Cup fifth round replay at Ewood Park. It may be some indication of his impact at Burnley that the most memorable thing he did at the club was to be photographed in the famous huddle that took place after that game.

Indeed, Whittingham didn't impress in subsequent fixtures, and was accused by sections of the Burnley crowd of not being interested in the game and pulling out of 50/50 challenges. After his month at Burnley, Whittingham returned to Aston Villa, though he has since had a loan at Derby before moving to Cardiff City in a £1 Million deal, where he still plays today.
