Profile by Andy Ashworth

Signing pro forms under the management of Stan Ternent, John would have no doubt hoped for more of an opportunity than he received. His Clarets career spanned one substitute appearance, out of position on the right side of midfield.

A regular at the heart of the defence in the reserves for two years, Willamson took on the role of reserve team captain in his final season with the club. His height made him a potent threat from set pieces, something he took advantage of to notch around ten goals at that level.

He was released at the end of the 2002 season along with Ball, and Thomas, and from us found himself playing football at Gresley Rovers.

Although his professional career was over before it really started he moved into coaching young players at his home club Derby County.
