Profile by Martyn Biddulph

David Johnson arrived at Turf Moor in March 2002 as Burnley looked to further push on for the play-offs. Signed on loan from Nottingham Forest, Johnson became an instant hero at Burnley. On signing for the club, Johnson stated 'I jumped at the chance of signing for Burnley.' The ex-Manchester United trainee was to make a big impact at Burnley over his short spell at the club.

DJ opened his account for Burnley in a 2-1 victory over Preston North End. Ironically his contribution was overshadowed by the introduction of another new signing Paul Gascoigne to the Burnley supporters on the same night.

An impressive scoring run for Burnley saw him notch 5 goals in 8 matches, an excellent record for a loan signing. However, Burnley didn't make the play-offs and to the dismay of a large number of Burnley supporters, he returned to Nottingham.

He notched 29 goals in 46 appearances on his return to Forest and became one of the top strikers outside the Premiership. However, he broke his leg in the next season and that kept him out of action for a year.

Soon after scoring his 50th Forest goal he picked up a serious back injury. This eventually forced him to retire, bringing a premature end to a solid career. He scored 150 goals in his career which saw him play for six clubs as well as his country, Jamaica.

Although his spell at Turf Moor was short, he made an extremely valuable contribution to Burnley. It is a shame his career at the club could not have lasted longer after the loan spell.
