The end of a Legend

International week is over and we take on a different looking Hull side to the one we played at the end of last season. The major difference is that the Legend has gone and after court cases, threats and accusations they finally got their man Phil Parkinson from newly promoted Colchester.

Parkinson moved in during the last week in June and he's made a number of changes to the squad since then and it started with the sale of Leon Cort who followed his former boss to Palace in a £1.25 million deal.

That money has gone in transfer fees for four new players – defenders Michael Turner and Sam Ricketts from Brentford and Swansea along with forwards Nicky Forster and Michael Bridges from Ipswich and Carlisle respectively. The latter two both signed on the last day before the transfer window closed at the end of August.

Besides those four they have also signed Tottenham's young midfielder Dean Marney and David Livermore who moved from Leeds less than two weeks after signing for them from Millwall. These two fees were undisclosed but along with the other four it means they will have spent considerably more than the fee they received for Cort.

They also currently have two loan players at the club, Mark Yeates a young forward who spent all last season with Parkinson at Colchester on loan, and former England full back Danny Mills who is out of the picture at Manchester City.

With such as Ben Burgess, Stuart Green and Billy Paynter all departed it makes it a very different squad than the one that finished last season one place below the Clarets with two points less.

This season has not started too well and they are currently in the bottom three, but it is believed they are in a false position. They fought back in their last game, the Legend's return with Palace, and equalised with a late goal from Turner.

Team News

Hull have been hit with a number of injuries recently but most of them have cleared and it leaves manager Parkinson with a bigger squad to select from than was the case during last month.

Danny Coles, Sam Ricketts and Nicky Forster are all back in contention but the game could come too early for Damien Delaney who returned to action this week playing the first half of a reserve game.

Ricketts will be looking forward to the game, he's had a few things to say about our players. “You've heard of their players, but with no disrespect you wouldn't mention them when talking about the best players in the Championship.”

David Livermore is doubtful, and that should mean Dean Marney retaining his place in the side, whilst Stuart Green is expected to be ruled out having picked up an injury on international duty with Northern Ireland.

Hull are expected to line up: Boaz Myhill, Sam Ricketts, Danny Mills, Michael Turner, Andy Dawson, Craig Fagan, Ian Ashbee, Dean Marney, Mark Yeates, Jon Parkin, Michael Bridges. Subs from : Matt Duke, Danny Coles Ryan France, John Welsh, Nicky Forster, David Livermore.

Wayne Thomas is out suspended, this will be the second of four matches he misses, but other than him and Danny Coyne, who is getting closer to a return, we have a full squad of eighteen players to select from.

Somehow you can hardly see us making much change, if any, to the side that won at Norwich and I would expect Steve Cotterill to name the same starting eleven, and in all probability the same substitutes who were on duty at Carrow Road.

That would see us line up: Brian Jensen, Frank Sinclair, Michael Duff, John McGreal, Jon Harley, Wade Elliott, James O'Connor, Micah Hyde, Steve Jones, Andy Gray, Gifton Noel-Williams. Subs: Stephen Foster, Chris McCann, Alan Mahon, Garreth O'Connor, Kyle Lafferty.

Last Meeting

It's almost a year ago, the end of October last year, when Hull last visited the Turf, on a Friday night in front of the Sky television cameras. It was a game we won 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Ade Akinbiyi who one week later would hit a hat trick in the 3-2 win at Luton.

Ade's goal on the half hour signalled the start of our best spell in the game which we carried well into the second half. But Hull came back, and only a superb save by Brian Jensen in stoppage time ensured we collected all three points to continue our climb up the table.

The teams were;

Burnley: Brian Jensen, Michael Duff, Keith Lowe, Frank Sinclair, Jon Harley, Wade Elliott (Duane Courtney 88), John Spicer (Gifton Noel-Williams 45), Micah Hyde, James O'Connor, Garreth O'Connor (Chris McCann 90), Ade Akinbiyi. Subs not used: Danny Karbassiyoon, Nathan Dyer.

Hull: Boaz Myhill, Mark Lynch, Leon Cort, Damien Delaney, Roland Edge (Nick Barmby 63), Ryan France, Curtis Woodhouse (Stuart Green 74), John Welsh, Stuart Elliott, Craig Fagan, Chris Brown (Ben Burgess 56). Subs not used: Matt Duke, Kevin Ellison.
