QPR youngsters set for Burnley

It’s not quite worked out for them and they’ve slipped down the league and they are currently twelfth with 58 points, two places above the Clarets with five points more. Their play off hopes are over but it has been a good season for them overall and better than was predicted back in August.

It wasn’t the best of days for the Clarets down there, we suffered our worst defeat of the season and lost keeper Danny Coyne to a serious injury. For QPR their manager Ian Holloway, probably the best manager in the division for a quote, has made a number of changes to his squad since that match bringing in five new permanent signings.

In November he signed Aldershot midfielder Adam Miller and in January Neapolitan goalkeeper Genoroso Rossi from Palermo, the 26 year-old keeper is still to make his debut.

March was the busiest month as three new players arrived at Loftus Road. Two of them, defenders Matthew Hislop and Dominic Shimmim, have signed from Arsenal but the two youngsters, like Rossi, have not been involved as yet with the first team.

One player who has is striker Dean Sturridge who came in from Wolves on a free transfer but he’s made only two substitute appearances.

Holloway also have goalkeeper Simon Royce who is currently on loan from Luton although defender Andrew Davies has this week been recalled by Middlesbrough and won’t be available tonight.

Their recent form suggests results are difficult to predict, they’ve had neither a good run nor a bad run but they have failed to win any of their last four games, drawing home games against Gillingham and Leeds whilst losing at home to Sunderland and at Sheffield United.

Team News

Ian Holloway has some problems for tonight’s game. Leading scorer Paul Furlong and defender Matthew Rose are ruled out with injury whilst Georges Santos and Adam Miller are serving suspensions. Miller’s comes after a red card in the draw with Leeds on Saturday whilst Santos has reached ten yellow cards.

Apart from that Dean Sturridge, Gareth Ainsworth, Martin Rowlands and Stefan Bailey are all doubtful whilst Andrew Davies is now unavailable having returned to Middlesbrough.

Holloway has recalled two loan players with both Lewis Hamilton and Aaron Brown who were out on loan at AFC Wimbledon and Torquay respectively. Hamilton goes straight into the squad but Brown cannot play until tomorrow and so will not be in the squad tonight.

Some of the youngsters will travel to Burnley and central defender Pat Kanyuka is set to start alongside Dan Shittu and Shabazz Baidoo could play up front. Other youngsters Ryan Johnson, Luke Townsend, Daniel Murphy and Scott Mulholland are also included in the squad.

QPR will select from: Chris Day, Marcus Bignot, Dan Shittu, Gino Padula, Stefan Bailey, Marc Bircham, Lee Cook, Kevin Gallen, Richard Edghill, Shabazz Baidoo, Jamie Cureton, Jake Cole, Pat Kanyuka, Simon Royce, Ryan Johnson, Luke Townsend, Daniel Murphy, Scott Mulholland.

For Burnley it looks as though Steve Cotterill will have Frank Sinclair back in his squad and he should come straight back into the starting line up. He will come into the side for Michael Duff with Duff dropping to the bench in place of Joel Pilkington who we believe is not available.

The only other likely change will see Brian Jensen return in goal after Danny Coyne played on Saturday in the 1-1 draw against Brighton.

The probably Burnley team is: Brian Jensen, Frank Sinclair, Gary Cahill, John McGreal, Mo Camara, Dean Bowditch, Micah Hyde, Tony Grant, James O’Connor, Graham Branch, Ade Akinbiyi. Subs: Danny Coyne, Lee Roche, Michael Duff, Jean-Louis Valois, John Oster.

Last Time

It’s just over four years since QPR were last at Turf Moor and it came a week after a poor performance and a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday and one week before the disaster at Ewood.

We won it 2-1 with Paul Smith and Gareth Taylor getting the Burnley goals. The goals were both significant in that it was Smudger’s last goal for the Clarets whilst for Taylor it was his first at the Turf since signing on loan from Manchester City.

The teams were,

Burnley: Nik Michopoulos, Paul Weller, Steve Davis, Mitchell Thomas, Graham Branch, Glen Little, Kevin Ball, Paul Cook (Gordon Armstrong), Paul Smith (Brad Maylett), Ian Moore (Andy Payton), Gareth Taylor. Subs not used: Paul Crichton, John Mullin.

QPR: Lee Harper, Marcus Bignot, Ian Baraclough, Wayne Brown, Danny Maddix, Mark Perry, Leon Knight, Paul Murray (George Kulcsar), Peter Crouch (Michel Ngonge), Jermaine Darlington, Chris Kiyomya (Andy Thomson). Subs not used: Ludek Miklosko, Chris Plummer.
