No one likes them

Twice we visited the Den, twice we were beaten and twice there were off the field problems but tomorrow is another day and another difficult task for the Clarets against a side who went back above us last Sunday after beating West Ham.

Last season saw them reach the FA Cup Final and after beating us they had to get past Tranmere and Sunderland before playing Manchester United at the Millennium Stadium in what turned out to be a very one sided game.

That brought European football but they went out at the first hurdle to Ferencvaros after drawing the home leg.

Wise has been able to add to his squad and the first summer signing was his former Chelsea team mate Jody Morris who had ended last season on a short term deal with Rotherham. He was joined by Graham Stack before the season started, the goalkeeper has joined them on loan for the season. Aston Villa’s Stefan Moore was also brought in on loan but he is now back at Villa Park.

They toured Canada in pre-season and brought two players back with them in Josh Simpson and Adrian Serioux. Both have become first team players with Serioux having caused major problems for sides with his incredibly long throws.

The signings didn’t stop after the season started either and after failing to sign Barry Hayles from Fulham in the summer, he chose Sheffield United, they were able to sign him from the Blades by the end of August.

Jo Tessem has signed on loan from Southampton and the most recent addition to the squad is Scott Dobie who snubbed Preston to join the Lions this month in a half million pound deal.

They are in ninth place in the league just two points short of the play offs and they have two games in hand on just about every club in the division, this brought on because of their earlier European commitments.

Although they have lost twice at home it is their form at the Den that sees them so high, they have won seven out of their ten home games, that win against rivals West Ham last Sunday being the most recent.

It’s good news for Millwall, they can add four players to the squad that beat West Ham last week. Adrian Serioux is back after serving a three match suspension whilst Neil Harris, Jody Morris and Peter Sweeney are all travelling after returning from injury. All four played a full ninety minutes in midweek for the reserves.

The one doubt centres around Wise but he is expected to be passed fit. The full Millwall squad is:

Graham Stack, Andy Marshall, Kevin Muscat, Josh Simpson, Darren Ward, Matt Lawrence, Mark Phillips, Paul Robinson, David Livermore, Jo Tessem, Paul Ifill, Marvin Elliott, Alan Dunne, Peter Sweeney, Dennis Wise, Jody Morris, Danny Dichio, Adrian Serioux, Barry Hayles, Scott Dobie, Neil Harris.

Steve Cotterill has no such injury headaches, none of his injured players are expected to be fit to return. With Richard Duffy having returned to Portsmouth at the end of his second month on loan the only change will be coach Mark Yates replacing him on the bench.

Our team will be: Brian Jensen, Michael Duff, Gary Cahill, Frank Sinclair, Mo Camara, Lee Roche, James O’Connor, Tony Grant, Graham Branch, Ian Moore, Robbie Blake. Subs: Paul Scott, Joel Pilkington, Amadou Sanokho, Mark Yates, Matt O’Neill.

Last season’s encounter ended in a 1-1 draw with the Clarets somewhat fortunate to get the point with Ian Moore equalising a Noel Whelan goal within seven minutes.

The teams were,

Burnley: Brian Jensen, Dean West, Graham Branch, Arthur Gnohere, Mo Camara, Ian Moore, Paul Weller (Tony Grant 4), Richard Chaplow, Luke Chadwick (Gareth Farrelly 76), Robbie Blake, Delroy Facey. Subs not used: Lee Roche, Joel Pilkington, Matt O’Neill.

Millwall: Tony Warner, Kevin Muscat, Darren Ward, Paul Robinson, Robbie Ryan, Paul Ifill, David Livermore, Peter Sweeney, Andy Roberts, Neil Harris (Noel Whelan 26), Bob Peeters (Kevin Braniff 62). Subs not used: Willy Gueret, Matt Lawrence, Dennis Wise.
