But that’s where we are heading to try and recover from our FA Cup defeat. It’s an awful ground for us, it is Warnock and just to make matters even worse they have reached the semi-finals of the cup.

But maybe that’s just what we need and we could just get there tomorrow and grab our first win at the ground since it became a football only venue. Yes, the last time we won there it was still doubling up as a Yorkshire County Cricket club venue.

The game should have been played on New Year’s Day but was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch and having been re-arranged for this week had to be put back 24 hours to Wednesday because of both club’s cup involvement on Sunday.

Sheffield United are currently fifth in the table and have just ended their worst run in the league all season. Although they reached the semi-finals of the Worthington Cup before going out to Liverpool and have also now made the last four in the FA Cup they recently lost four consecutive league games.

They lost at Millwall and Ipswich but were then beaten twice in four days at Bramall Lane against Norwich and Reading, In fact their last home league win was mid-January against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

But the last two league games have been won at Rotherham and Grimsby, the latter coming last Tuesday by 4-1 at Blundell Park. They were three up just after the half hour but the result somewhat flattered the Blades who were able to play against ten men for the last 33 minutes after Alan Pouton was sent off. Dean Windass, Steve Kabba, Rob Kozluk and Michael Brown scored the goals.

They lined up: Paddy Kenny, Shaun Murphy, Rob Kozluk (John Curtis 79), Robert Page, Nick Montgomery, Phil Jagielka, Stuart McCall, Michael Brown, Dean Windass, Peter Ndlovu (Owen Morrison 87), Steve Kabba (Paul Peschisolido 77). Subs not used: Wayne Allison, Jean-Phillipe Javary.

Two of the three subs used were making their debuts. Owen Morrison has joined on a free transfer from, of all places, Sheffield Wednesday whilst John Curtis has signed on loan from Blackburn.

Steve Kabba has notched eleven league goals this season although only four of them are for the Blades with one for Palace and another six for Grimsby. Michael Brown with ten is United’s leading scorer in the league.
