Next Game – Millwall (away)

There will be up to 500 Burnley supporters at the New Den tonight after we had initially been banned following the problems there at the end of season play off last May.

But that ban has been lifted, somewhat fortunately for us, and much of the praise for this should go to the geniune Millwall supporters who have worked tirelessly to improve the image of their club.

I do feel somewhat guilty attending tonight after the dreadful decision by Burnley Football Club to ban these genuine Millwall supporters. Ironically three days before the Turf Moor game the Millwall fans were admitted at Portsmouth yet three days ago the Portsmouth fans were still banned from the New Den. We are very fortunate indeed to be going tonight.

Until they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton Millwall, another of the clubs in the middle section of the division with aspirations of reaching the play offs, were doing very well and had just won three successive league games without conceding a goal.

But it has all changed since and they have failed to pick up a single point from four games since that extra time cup exit. Two of the defeats have been at home against Reading and Portsmouth whilst they have also lost twice on their travels to Preston and Brighton.

The last of these defeats came at the weekend when league leaders Portsmouth won with some ease at the New Den. They were four up by half time and went on to win it 5-0 and that result has left Millwall in 16th place although in this division one win can move you up and down a number of places.

Their side on Saturday was: Tony Warner, Steven Reid, Robbie Ryan, Darren Ward, Paul Robinson, Paul Ifill, Dennis Wise, David Livermore, Christophe Kinet, Neil Harris, Steve Claridge (Richard Sadlier 56). Subs not used: Willy Gueret, Matthew Rees, Alan Dunne, Charley Hearn.
