Next Game – Franchise (home)

Last updated : 26 September 2002 By Tony Scholes

They are currently playing their home games in South London but are planning to move to Buckinghamshire in the near future to play their games. I called them pariahs earlier in the week, I must have been in benevolent mood at the time.

Many people were disgusted that Boston were allowed into the Football League this year having been found guilty of a number of irregularities but at least they had to settle for a place in Division Three. Franchise, in their first ever season, have been allowed straight into Division One and not only that have not even been promoted from another league.

They are here under false pretences and have wormed their way in having broken all the rules. We shouldn’t have to play them but unfortunately we have no option.

Currently they have a point more than the Clarets from one game more played and are in 18th place in the league. Nothing other than a bottom three place for them though is acceptable and the whole of football are sincerely hoping that they will at best be playing Second Division football next season. However with any luck at all they will go out of business and fail to make it to the start of next season.

The formation of this new club has failed to capture the imagination and they are without any sort of real support at all. It is a more than fair bet that there will be less of their supporters at the Turf on Saturday than there were Millwall fans at the previous home game. Maybe we can count them hiding in the corner of the cricket field stand.

So our opponents will arrive from South London but could call at Milton Keynes to milk the concrete cows on the way home, hopefully after the Clarets have hammered them.

There is no look back at previous games on this occasion, we have never played them before, and neither have any players ever played for Burnley and Franchise.

Our normal match previews will return next week.
