New look Clarets set for TV date with Canaries

It hadn't been the season the Canaries had been expecting following relegation from the Premiership, they were considered to be one of the promotion favourites but that just hasn't materialised.

They won again in their next game, but then hit another poor run of form but in the last month they has been a major turnaround with four wins from six games and they are even talking about making the play offs.

I'd suggest that's very unlikely, they remain seven points behind Preston, the only team they could conceivably catch, with Preston still having a game in hand. Norwich would have to find some remarkable form in the last few games to remain in with a chance of an immediate return to the Premiership.

Nigel Worthington hasn't been rushing around in the last week bringing in loan players, although he was linked with a couple of potential signings, but there will be some new faces in the Norwich squad since that last meeting at the end of December.

Worthington was one of the busier managers during January's transfer window with much of it prompted by the big sale of striker Dean Ashton to West Ham. He was with them for about the same period as Ade Akinbiyi was a Claret and they, like us, made a healthy profit.

West Ham paid £7.25 million although some of that will have gone to Dario G's boys as part of a sell on clause. The other departure was defender Jim Brennan, the Canadian once linked with Burnley was signed by George Burley at Southampton.

That all allowed Worthington to bring in new players and that included taking loan players Dickson Etuhu and Carl Robinson permanently from Preston and Sunderland respectively. He then spent £3.5 million on West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw and took Charlton's Jonatan Johansson and Fulham's Zesh Rehman on loan.

It did take a while for them to settle but last week's win over the Blades took them up another couple of places and also gave Nigel Worthington and his staff the opportunity to snub Neil Warnock, a good day all round for them.

Now, it is time we had a good day and got ourselves off that 43 points total we have been stuck on for far too long.

Team News

Norwich have no real problems ahead of the game and, apart from Darren Ward and Matthieu Louis-Jean who are both out with long term injuries, the only doubt is Paul McVeigh who came off with a back injury during last week's win against Sheffield United.

He's rated at just 50/50 but latest indications are that he will play, but if not then his place will go to Jonatan Johansson or possibly Ian Henderson in what is expected to be an otherwise unchanged Norwich team.

If McVeigh does make it Norwich should line up: Robert Green, Craig Fleming, Jason Shackell, Gary Doherty, Adam Drury, Paul McVeigh, Andy Hughes, Carl Robinson, Darren Huckerby, Robert Earnshaw, Leon McKenzie. Subs from: Paul Gallacher, Simon Charlton, Dickson Etuhu, Youssef Safri, Jonatan Johansson, Ian Henderson.

Burnley could field as many as three home debutants tonight. Phil Bardsley and Andy Gray made their debuts last week at Stoke whilst Alan Mahon, signed yesterday from Wigan, will go into the squad.

We'll be hoping Andy Gray keeps up his current run of form at Turf Moor. His last visit was the opening day of last season when he scored Sheffield United's equaliser in the 1-1 draw and before that he scored Bradford City's second in their 2-0 win. His only other appearance on the Turf was back in 1999 when he was in the Preston side that beat us 1-0 on the day that Tom Cowan and Paul Cook made their Burnley debuts.

Who will play tonight is a difficult one but we know that from last week's team we will be without Wayne Thomas, who is now out for the season with a fractured metatarsal, and it is looking as though both Micah Hyde and John McGreal will both still be out with Frank Sinclair returning for Thomas.

Michael Ricketts can play, his two match ban starts tomorrow, so the front two are sorted, so it is in midfield where there will be numerous permutations even if Micah is still out. I think Alan Mahon will start but who steps down will be determined whether he occupies a central or left sided position.

Out on the right, as the Bournemouth three seem to rotate just now I would think Wade Elliott might get the call ahead of Garreth O'Connor who was disappointing last week.

It's a guess, but the team could be something like: Brian Jensen, Phil Bardsley, Frank Sinclair, Michael Duff, Jon Harley, Wade Elliott, James O'Connor, Chris McCann, Alan Mahon, Michael Ricketts, Andy Gray. Subs from: Duane Courtney, Danny Karbassiyoon, Graham Branch, Garreth O'Connor, John Spicer, Kyle Lafferty.

Last Time

It was goals galore last time Norwich visited Turf Moor as the Clarets went in front three times with goals from Neil Wood, David May and Robbie Blake, only for Norwich to draw level three times and then go onto win it 5-3 as we threw one in.
