Hull of a day out

The KC Stadium, or Kingston Communications Stadium to give it its full name, opened its doors in December 2002 and so it has now been home to Hull City for over three years.

They were relegated at the end of that 1995/96 season and remained in the basement division for eight years before winning promotions in each of the last two seasons has seen them play at this level for the first time since 1991.

They are down in 19th place just now but at no time have they ever been threatened with a return to League One although they did slip into the bottom three during November after four consecutive defeats, the first of them our 1-0 win at the Turf in front of the Sky cameras.

The Legend in his Own Mind Peter Taylor is one of the more fortunate managers in the league, he looks to have a budget bigger at Hull that is bigger than at a lot of clubs and he's certainly made some changes to his squad since Ade Akinbiyi gave us that victory in October.

He had John Welsh on loan at the time from Liverpool and that deal was made permanent when the transfer window opened. It was a swap deal that didn't have an effect on the Hull first team as youth player Paul Anderson went in the other direction. Those of us at the FA Youth Cup tie against Liverpool in January will know of the potential they have signed.

Two loan players came in shortly after the game at the Turf. Billy Paynter and Sam Collins both signed from Port Vale, and again once the January window opened they made their moves permanent.

Strikers Darryl Duffy from Falkirk and Macclesfield's Jon Parkin also made the journey to Humberside in January as did Alan Rogers who joined from Nottingham Forest on loan. And since the window closed they have brought in two players on emergency loans, they are Portuguese defender Rui Marques from Leeds and West Ham's Mark Noble.

Their current home form is good and all of the last three games at the KC Stadium have ended in 1-0 home wins with Craig Fagan, Stuart Green and Jon Parkin getting the winning goals. Wide man Stuart Elliott though is leading scorer with seven league goals to his name this season.

The Clarets are on a poor run away from home and an away win is very much overdue, hopefully we will end Hull's run of home wins.

Team News

Taylor has more players to choose from than he had last week at Sheffield United. Alan Rogers, John Welsh and Mark Lynch were all ruled out with illness but all three of them are back to join the other sixteen players who were on duty.

He will make changes, their two goalscorers last week, Stuart Elliott and Darryl Duffy, had both come on as subs and will be pushing for a place as will the three players returning to the squad.

They will select from: Boaz Myhill, Alton Thelwell, Leon Cort, Damien Delaney, Andy Dawson, Billy Paynter, Keith Andrews, Stuart Green, Kevin Ellison, Craig Fagan, Jon Parkin, Stuart Elliott, Darryl Duffy, Matt Duke, Ryan France, Scott Wiseman, Alan Rogers, John Welsh, Mark Lynch.

There aren't likely to be many changes to the Burnley side and it could well be that Steve Cotterill will name an unchanged line up with John McGreal and Micah Hyde again having to start on the bench.

Kyle Lafferty missed out last week after picking up an injury just before half time in the reserve game against Preston but he's expected to be fit enough to return and could well be on the bench.

If we remain unchanged then the team will be: Brian Jensen, Phil Bardsley, Michael Duff, Frank Sinclair, Jon Harley, Alan Mahon, James O'Connor, Chris McCann, Graham Branch, Michael Ricketts, Andy Gray. Subs from: John McGreal, Micah Hyde, Garreth O'Connor, John Spicer, Wade Elliott, Kyle Lafferty.

Last Time

More than enough has been said about our last visit to Hull just over ten years ago when the bottom club beat us 3-0. There's more on this and other games at Boothferry Park in What's the weather doing? In our look back section.

Hull: Roy Carroll, Simon Trevitt, Jimmy Graham, Gary Hobson, Neil Allison, Greg Abbott, Richard Peacock, Chris Lee (Craig Lawford), Bobby Davison, Neil Mann (Kenny Gilbert), Andy Williams.

Burnley: Wayne Russell, Gerry Harrison, Chris Vinnicombe, Peter Swan, Mark Winstanley, Jamie Hoyland, Liam Robinson, Warren Joyce, Ian Helliwell (John Francis), Kurt Nogan, Steve Thompson.
