Fulham back at Turf Moor

Last updated : 12 December 2009 By Andy Dean

Story So Far

Fulham arrive at Turf Moor this weekend currently occupying 8th place in the Barclays Premier League, a position Roy Hodgson and his players would surely love to be in come the end of the season.

The main reason the men from beside the Thames find themselves in the top half is their strong form at Craven Cottage. The most notable of their five home wins so far this season undoubtedly being the 3-1 win over Liverpool in October, while solid displays on the road have seen them take a point away from both the City Of Manchester Stadium and the DW Stadium.

As well as a demanding league schedule Fulham have also had to contend with considerable European commitments.

Their season began back in July with a Europa League qualifier against FK Vetra, and since a two-legged victory over the Lithuanians they have travelled to Russia, Bulgaria and Italy. Their next continental excursion will see them travel to Switzerland for a winner-takes-all clash with FC Basel later this month.

Ones To Watch

23 - Clint Dempsey Fulham's top goal scorer and an ever present so far this season, USA international Dempsey joined Fulham in January 2007 from New England Revolution for just £1.5million. He is now approaching 100 league appearances for the club and, although a midfielder by trade, the 26 year old has also played in attack and defence and is sure to be a threat wherever he plays on Saturday.

25 - Bobby Zamora Zamora scored the winner in Fulham's 1-0 win over Sunderland last Sunday and whilst he will argue a return of four Premier League goals in 12 starts this season is adequate, the more telling statistic is six goals in 44 league starts since he swapped Upton Park for Craven Cottage in July last year.

16 - Damien Duff Now enjoying a return to the form that made him one of the most feared wingers in the Premier League almost a decade ago, Duff has taken an instant liking to life at Fulham.

After frustrating spells with Chelsea and Newcastle the Republic Of Ireland international is happy to be working under his former boss Hodgson, and has scored three times this season, including strikes to earn a draw against Manchester City and Bolton.

Last Time We Met

Burnley 1-0 Fulham Sept 08 2008

Round one of Capital Punishment. A late, late goal from substitute Jay Rodriguez was enough for the Clarets to claim a notable Premier League scalp and advance to Round Four of the Carling Cup. Who knew where this victory would lead!

Our last league meeting at Turf Moor was an exciting affair that saw Burnley bring a run of three successive defeats to an end. We trailed 1-0 with Barry Hayles scoring early in the second half, but goals from Ian Moore and Glen Little gave us a 2-1 win, Little's goal coming two minutes from the end.

We have to go back to September 1967 for the last top flight meeting between Burnley and Fulham at Turf Moor. Frank Casper and Ralph Coates got the goals that day in a 2-0 win. Martin Dobson made his home debut for Burnley at centre forward whilst future manager Stan Ternent played centre half.

The team in 1967 was: Harry Thomson, Fred Smith (Willie Irvine), Les Latcham, Brian O'Neil, Stan Ternent, Arthur Bellamy, Willie Morgan, Frank Casper, Martin Dobson, Gordon Harris, Ralph Coates.
