Back to the FA Cup

Last updated : 23 January 2009 By Tony Scholes

Burnley will go into their seventh game of the year when they step out onto the pitch at the Hawthorns and it will be the fifth in the two cup competitions. After two games against QPR (FA Cup) and two games against Spurs (Carling Cup) we are now into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Owen Coyle has spoken of his desire to have another cup run in the wake of Wednesday's defeat and a win at West Brom, where we've now won since 1970, would see us into the last sixteen of the competition.

Our Opponents

West Brom were always destined for the Premier League last season. Having failed in the play offs a year earlier they were favourites for promotion and clinched the title ahead of Stoke with 81 points.

It will be a different looking West Brom side from the one we played in the league last season. Since they won promotion manager Tony Mowbray has brought in no fewer than fourteen new players, including three on loan.

They are currently at the bottom of the Premier League but such is the league this season that one more win would see them climb seven places and they are one of five clubs on 21 points with only their goal difference keeping them at the bottom.

Survival is their man objective this season but Mowbray has stressed that they will also be looking for a run in the FA Cup.

Team News

It is difficult to determine what the West Brom team will be but Roman Bedner will return after suspension. They will though be without Jonas Olsson, Abdoulaye Meite, Leon Barnett, Gianni Zuiverloon, James Morrison and Luke Moore who are all out with injury as are both Ishmael Miller and Neil Clement with long term injuries.

Burnley boss Owen Coyle will be checking on his players ahead of the game. Stephen Jordan is ruled out with the injury that saw him forced off just before half time against Spurs but there's good news with both Steven Caldwell and Steven Thompson available again.

I suspect both Caldwell and Thompson will come back in whilst Christian Kalvenes will replace Jordan. Again it is difficult to come up with a potential line up.
