You should take the bull by the horns

The two know each other well; they were team mates at Bolton in the mid-90s when Phil Brown was Owen Coyle's captain and both are demanding more from their players.

Brown said: "Our only goal is three points tonight. I want a wounded animal to come out and prove to people that we can still make the play offs. People tend to write you off when you get a defeat but the manner of that defeat makes me still quite confident that we can go and get three points tonight.

"Saturday was a good performance, but unfortunately it was a defeat and we're smarting from that. We're still on the shirt tails of the top six and if we can repeat what we've done in the last twelve games of the season then we will be somewhere near. It is a massive ask for us, but I'm demanding a performance from them. If they can do that as a team, that will be the key to success."

Owen Coyle meanwhile wants more of what his players gave him on Saturday in the draw against Watford. "What it takes is just the same as what we gave on Saturday; a level of attitude, character, desire and commitment that was there in abundance.

"I think it is going to take all that, and the little bit of luck and decisions that we don't seem to have had, certainly in my three months here. But above all that, it takes good players to be brave and show we're up for the battle and the fight, and within that, that we can play a little. We have shown that lately and we have to continue to do that.

"It is a hectic time. There are four games in twelve days so it is important that we are ready for them. If we can come through Hull, Stoke, Charlton and Wolves and we are there or thereabouts, then maybe we can have a big say in our destiny.

"We have tried to give the players the encouragement and belief because we do believe they can win games against anybody in the Championship. I think they have grasped that and sensed it.

"Sometimes things will conspire against us for whatever reason, individual mistakes or the bounce of the ball - but at the end of the day those players know they can play and win games at a very high level.

"I have stressed to them that as years go by there are times when you don't get involved in this sort of thing. So when you get an opportunity you should grasp it, take the bull by the horns and make sure you are in the shake up.

"If it is not to be then make sure it is not through lack of effort. You don't want to be running into the last four of five games with them being meaningless. We want to make sure we're really playing for something at the top end of the league and that starts again at Hull."
