We've paid a heavy price for that little bit of naivety

Roberto Martinez, the Swansea boss, masterminded their promotion last season, and has so far seen his side remain unbeaten at home following that late escape, but he did feel his side deserved the point they won.

"I think the performance deserved a point," he said. "Overall it was a scrappy day for us. They stopped us from playing but keeping with the attitude of players when went 1-0 down they kept playing and believing and the goal was as good as you'll see at this level.

"We need to learn because we're getting punished too heavily for small things and what we're giving away but overall I'm delighted with the character of the squad needed to come back and get the result.

"I'm delighted as the boys understand what we need to do, they showed great personality and great awareness. To finish a game with a move and a goal like we saw is for everyone to be very pleased about."

Owen Coyle was always going to be the more disappointed of the two managers having seen us conceded deep into stoppage time. "I'm disappointed by conceding a late goal that's for sure," Coyle said when he spoke after the game. "I think Swansea away is a very tough fixture, Roberto has some fine players but I felt we handled them reasonably well in the game.

"The work ethic we had was terrific and we had a nice shape to us, whilst also looking a real threat going forward and we scored a wonderful footballing goal.

"I think we should have seen the game out, we certainly had for 94 minutes and I found the added time strange given that two of those substitutions were at half time.

"Regardless of that, you are obligated to make sure you see the game out and we had a wonderful opportunity in the last third to use our experience and capability to win a game, but I think we've made the wrong decision and they have hit us on the counter attack. We've paid a heavy price for that little bit of naivety.

"We contributed a lot to the game and it certainly feels like a defeat given the nature of the late goal. We have worked ever so hard to turn the defence around and they have. I am generally gutted for the players because they put so much into the game and I think we deserved the three points.

All be it that you are going to be under pressure at various times when you come to Swansea because it's a tremendous atmosphere which is conducive to a real footballing environment. I think we stood up to everything they had to throw at us. Brian only had one very good save to make so it was pleasing just to limit them to a few opportunities."
