We've had a great week, but that's all it is

Moyes had warned his side that Burnley would have been boosted by the win against Manchester United but had expected them to get their league season off the mark after the opening day hammering against Arsenal.

"I would expect to come to Burnley and win, so I'm disappointed," said former Preston boss Moyes. "We were poor in the opening 20 minutes or so. I thought we improved as the game went on but still not enough to cause them enough problems.

"I didn't think we were in control of the game that much but we were in the last 30 minutes or so."

Moyes added: "It's a bad time to come here, right at the start of the season, because they have a great deal of momentum coming up from the Championship. They have a lot of energy in their team at the present time, which they took from the Manchester United game.

"We had chances today but we didn't connect with them or we miskicked them. We didn't take the chances we had."

Owen Coyle believed the Clarets fully deserved the three points. "I thought we were the better team for the duration of the match," he said as he saw his side go seventh in the league.

"There were spells when they had a lot of the ball, but I don't think they hurt us too often. Obviously there was the big moment with the penalty. Against Manchester United I think it was a penalty, but I'm not so sure about this one.

"My players are adamant there was no contact, but it is a gilt-edged chance that passed them by and I was delighted with that.

"I just felt that over the game we played at a good pace and had many opportunities. Everything we asked they delivered and I thought we were worthy of the win."

But Coyle issued a warning: "We've had a great week, but that's all it is," he said. "There is so much hard work ahead of us and that's the great thing about this team. They enjoy coming to work and working hard and everyone can see that.

"It's Chelsea and Liverpool next, so it doesn't get any easier. But what it does, it puts us up there with six points on the board and we have a big Carling Cup game, followed by a game at Stamford Bridge where we will look to play the same game.

"It's up to us to try to keep proving people wrong."
