We've ended up with a bigger electricity bill

It appears Wolves are not that good when it comes to taking spot kicks although it was a penalty that brought about their equaliser in the win at Plymouth last Saturday.

“When you get that kind of opportunity to finish a team off you cannot miss two, it’s bad enough missing one,” said Jones after the game.

“No doubt people will blame the coaching but I can’t understand it. They put them down and score time and time again in training. We thought we had found a take in Cort, after he scored on Saturday, and they he goes and misses tonight.

“At that stage we just wondered if it was going to be our night – and it turned out it wasn’t. The frustrating thing for us is that I don’t think Oakes had a save to make. Blake hit the bar for Burnley and there were a few crosses but we weren’t really troubled.

“Yet after everything that had gone before, the penalty that should be given was the one at the death when Jensen brought down Cort. It was a stonewall penalty, although I don’t know who would have taken it.”

Steve Cotterill was concerned about the fact that the game had gone into extra time with an important league game coming up on Saturday.

“It has been a long night for us, too long because we’ve got tired players and a game coming up on Saturday,” he admitted after the game.

“Other than that we are pleased to be through, but we didn’t need extra time at all, not one iota.”

Onto the game he said, “In the first half I don’t think we looked like we wanted to go out and win the game and I said that at half time.

“We were a bit sharper in the second half and were more forceful but the trouble was we did it for twenty minutes and then didn’t do it in the last twenty minutes and we’ve ended up with a bigger electricity bill.

“The players all worked hard throughout and I was pleased with them. I thought they all covered every blade of grass from kick off right until the end of the game.

“I just hope we have enough legs for Saturday now, but we showed great energy so I thank the lads for that. Hopefully we have a bit left in the tank.”

One new boy Jean-Louis Valois he added, “He hasn’t played much football recently so I will give him credit for that. He was the last one for the penalties and in the end he didn’t have to put a blemish on a good night, I did wonder if he had to go up and something went wrong for him it would be a bad end for him.”
