We've earned a little bit of long overdue luck

Nick Barmby, in his first home game in charge for Hull, saw his side drop all three points in that dramatic finale and it was their own two goal striker Matty Fryatt who spoke after the game.

It hadn't quite sunk in and he said: "For 75 minutes I thought we were the better of the two teams and controlled the play. Burnley then grabbed the momentum away from us and nicked it at the end.

"We maybe needed a bit more composure at times because we gave the ball away a little bit cheaply. We could have done some things a bit better, but it's easy to say that in hindsight.

"I thought for the majority of the game we played really well and we were excellent at Derby last weekend."

Eddie Howe must have thought defeat number five was all he would come home with but two David Edgar goals and a winner from Jay Rodriguez turned everything on its head.

"It was a really strange one because for long periods today we were disappointing," Howe admitted. "We were 2-0 down, out of the game and heading for a fifth successive defeat and out of nowhere we found something.

"The goal gave us a confidence boost and suddenly we looked a terrific side, and the side I think we can be, for the remainder of the game. Confidence though is a huge thing with us at the moment. We have taken a lot of hits this season and the late goals we have conceded in the last two games.

"When you don't get results and performances are ok, as they have been on plenty of occasions this season, it knocks you."

But Howe wasn't impressed for some of the game, adding: "I was hugely disappointed with our first half today and I asked them for a response in the second half. They certainly gave that and the untapped potential in this team is there for everyone to see, especially when we get a lift. That can only be about confidence.

"We tried to tighten it up defensively today because we wanted to be a little bit more solid and harder to beat, but I don't think it worked terribly well and I have to look at myself for that, so we had to change it.

"I don't think we have put a full 90 minutes together all season, where we have been the dominant force I think we can be. That's a challenge because we are a young team and until we develop as a team there will be those inconsistencies.

"It's funny because at 2-2 I was thinking back to Birmingham and Leeds and do we try to shut up shop and take the point to end a losing run, but the momentum was with us and the lads were going for the win, so we almost had to let them go for it because it was all us and we didn't want to sit back and try to defend the draw.

"Full credit to the lads and the challenge now is taking that into the next game and use that a springboard to try and get back-to-back wins. People will say we've had a slice of luck and I would agree with them, but we've earned a little bit of long overdue luck and we have to follow that up with a really good performance in front of our home supporters because they are owed one.

"I really appreciate how the supporters have stuck with us and that means everything to us as a group.

"I can't thank them and everyone connected with the club enough for that. Now we want to take it on."
