We're certainly disappointed not to get the three points

Sturrock set his team up to get a point and that's exactly what he got, so he was always going to be pleased with what was their first point since the opening day of the season. "The essence of life is to draw your away games and win your home games so we've now got to sort out our home form," he said after the game.

"We tried a different system today and it seemed to benefit the players and simplify their game. We have got a lot of players who are trying to find their sea-legs. We tried something that they seemed to have fitted into.

"We won't be able to play like that every week, system wise, but now we have got to get this team thinking about scoring goals. We still haven't scored a gaol in the last three or four games, but today was a solid performance.

"It was very difficult to be forceful, offensively, because we have had to make ourselves stronger as a unit and they have had to be thinking about how they should play in the system and forget about having a shot at goal every now and again. To be fair we passed the ball a lot better in the first half.

"I don't think we deserved any more than a point, so I'll take that. We're a team finding our feet at this minute in time. It's going to be a long, hard slog to get ourselves the finished article, and we're not got to be that in one season."

A frustrated Owen Coyle saw his side fail to score for the third successive league game but was pleased with the fact that we kept another clean sheet. He said: "The positives, considering we shipped a few goals earlier in the season, it was another clean sheet.

"But I felt it was always going to be a clean sheet. I certainly can't recall in open play that they had a chance, or a real goalscoring opportunity, whereas I felt we created a number of chances, certainly in the first half in particular.

"Plymouth paid us a lot of respect by coming and getting everybody behind the ball and not giving up a lot of space, and that's when the players have got to keep passing and moving until that opportunity arises.

"When we did that in the first half, then we had chances and I felt we offered enough to the match to get the three points. Even when we went down to ten men we were still looking to push on to get the winner, and the keeper again has made an unbelievable save from Joey's free kick, which he's touched onto the top of the bar.

"Overall we're certainly disappointed not to get the three points. We've got quality and boys that can score goals. They just have to stay true to themselves and to their beliefs, and that will turn for them.

"But the most important thing is if we continue getting clean sheets then you'll win your share of games, no doubt about that."

Chris Eagles was sent off, the first Burnley red card of the season, and Coyle was in no doubt that the player would be disciplined if he was guilty. He said on the subject: "I never saw anything of the sending off, and that's not me being evasive.

"The linesman was certainly convinced though and when I watch the DVD, if he has done anything wrong then he'll be punished, in no uncertain terms, because we want the discipline to be bang on and we're certainly not going to stand for that.

"We know he's a young lad, but he's left his team mates playing with ten men and we could have paid a price for that. He's going to be missing for a number of games now, so he's hurting individually but, bigger than that he's hurting the football club and I won't stand for that.

"Regardless of how the game's going you can't get frustrated and you certainly can't get caught up in it. With young players you're trying to get that across as early as you can. Let's hope it's a lesson he learns quickly."
