We weren't at the races in the first half

Robins saw his side wipe away the memory of their last home game which was lost to Birmingham and said after this game: "I think we were brilliant, we really were. We were absolutely outstanding. I wouldn't have been embarrassed if we had come away two or three goals up, I thought we were that good.

"I hope there's no gloss taken off the win with the comments that come about penalties and things like that. I think we've got the rub of the green with that decision, but make no mistake about it we deserved the three points."

Having gone 2-0 up, Robins admitted: ""In the second half, like top teams do, they came at us and there are some good players there. In Sam Vokes and Danny Ings they've got two lively strikers who only need a sniff.

"We were facing the top team in the division and we went toe to toe with them. It's difficult to do that, and we are getting better. It's about belief and the players will get that with this result."

He added: "We've contributed to a nervy last ten minutes because we've not dealt with that (our goal), but I think that comes from wanting to play out from the back. I think we stuck to the task against a really tough side.

"I don't think it's just my team it's just basic psychology in wanting to protect something. I would love us to be on the front foot, and hopefully that will come. The other side is that we want to continue in the same vein and we want to maintain good results."

Sean Dyche was honest to admit: "I think it's fair to say we weren't at the races in the first half, simple as that. It's very rare for us not to come out of the blocks but we didn't today.

"We shuffled it at half time and I thought we started the second half brightly, but then the big talking points occur; a corner that's not a corner and they score from that. We could have dealt with it better.

"Then there's the penalty that wasn't a penalty. Michael Duff's outside the area for starters, which is always a sign of my understanding of the rule that it's not a penalty. He's motioned towards the ball but his hands are by his sides and it's hit what looks like his ribs, but that aside it's outside the area.

"It's very frustrating for us because we'd just got a foothold in the game, even at 1-0 down we created a couple of chances. At 2-0 we know it's a hard ask, although I thought the players were terrific in giving everything as the second half drew on.

"We got back in it, and so nearly took something from the game, but we need to play better than we did in the first half. It was the worst performance we've had in the first half of a match from pre-season, let alone during the season.

"It was a rare one and we want to keep it a rare one, but they did give everything in the second half."
