We were the better team

Taylor was happy enough with the point in the end despite his side having taken the lead early in the game, and in his view having finished the game strongly. "At time we didn't play enough football," he said. "But in the last twenty-five minutes we did after Ben Watson came on.

"That helped us play a bite more through midfield and become of a threat. I thought we finished the game well and we had some good chances in the end with James Scowcroft's header and Tom Soares' shot, so I was pleased with that.

"Burnley away is always a difficult match, they have hard strikers to play against and it was a hard pitch to play on too so I am pleased with a point from the game."

Speaking about our goal he added: "It was a good finish by Akinbiyi and he's a good player and he looked a good player today. But I'll have to look at the video because it was a disappointing goal for us to give him a free header there, that is unless he worked incredibly hard for the space.

"He always seems to score against me too, but they really are a handful up front and not at all easy to play against."

Steve Cotterill spoke about Akinbiyi too, after seeing his striker bag his first league goal since returning to the club on New Year's Day. "I thought that was Ade's best game today," Cotterill said. "There were no lost causes, which is what we have learned to expect from him. Hopefully now that will kick start him again and we need him to build on that.

"I thought Andy Gray did well too, certainly for the first hour until the soreness in his foot kicked in. It would have been idea if the two of them could have scored, but what has happened is they have both been thrown in to play with each other because needs must."

Steve was disappointed to only win a point after seeing the Clarets dominate the second half having equalised just before half time. "We are disappointed with the draw because I think we did enough to win the game. The goal we conceded is a major disappointment, but those involved showed good character in us getting a result today, albeit not a win.

"In the second half Palace didn't really trouble us, other than maybe on the break. Other than that I think we were pretty much in control of the game and perhaps we could have done better with some of our efforts.

"When you're a team who is not winning, it is hard for everything to just drop into place. That was a decent Palace side, but we were the better team and it is disappointing not to come away with the three points.

"We are getting better, but the trouble is everyone wants it overnight. We are trying to do that as soon as we possibly can, and if we had taken one of those second half chances we would have been sat here discussing a win."

It is ten days before the Clarets play again, our game against Plymouth next week has been called off because of their FA Cup commitments. "We would have been better playing next week, especially with it being a home game," he added. "We're not really pleased to have a free week."
