We were professional and wrapped the game up pretty well

Burton might well have been on the losing side but their boss Mr Karren Brady was delighted with the way his team played but was certainly disappointed with the goals they conceded.

He said: "The goals were a bit silly and their second goal, you didn't know whether to laugh or cry it was that embarrassing.

"But the boys have done me proud. They have worked extremely hard. There were periods in the game where we matched some of their quality and let's face it they use it. They have got players like Eagles and the boy Cork who I thought were phenomenal but we matched them in most departments and I think the scoreline perhaps flatters them a bit.

"We had them on the ropes for a time in the first half. There was a spell of about 10 minutes when we did have a little bit of pressure. There was a spell when we went through and if they didn't bring our player down we were one on one with the goalkeeper while they didn't cause us many problems down the other end."

Calvin Zola got a debut goal for them and his performance really pleased his new boss. He said of his new loan player: "It's great to score on your debut - it settles the nerves. The duck is broken and he's not going to be looking where that first goal comes from. Now he needs to get fit. I'm sure he'll bring goals to the side. He's come up against Carlisle and Duff who are Premier League centre halves and at times he gave them a hard time and he's only 25% fit.

"Overall we learned from playing Burnley - absolutely. Some of their movement and their passing and interchange of play was phenomenal at times but our players didn't look out of their depth. 3-1 was disappointing, I hate losing, but there were so many positives to take out of it."

Eddie Howe was also seeing the positives as he got a win on his first Turf Moor appearance as manager. He was also delighted with the performance of Chris Eagles, again used in a more central role. "I would have preferred Chris to play like that after the window shut, but he had an excellent game.

"I thought he deserved a hat trick in the end today and he was unfortunate not to. His link play was excellent and he took his goals well. Chris probably thinks the third one went over the line, but I'll have to see it again."

How continued: "It was a good win in a difficult game. These games can be really difficult. Burton hadn't played for a long while and they looked fresher. They showed they are a decent side, but we were resolute and we are pleased with the result.

"We can play better, but I thought we were professional and wrapped the game up pretty well in the end. It was slightly nervy, especially when it went 2-1, but we got the third and I am really pleased for Martin.

"It's been a frustrating time on the sidelines and we are all aware of his ability. I know how frustrating it can be to be out injured for a while, but when he came on he looked razor sharp and could have had two or three himself.

"I'm pleased he looked so bright in his little cameo. He is a real positive from today and hopefully now he can stay free of injury."
