We were pleased with it

Steve saw his side record their first pre-season win, a result that was never in any danger once we had gone in front in the first few minutes from John McGreal.

“It was good, I thought we were a bit better than Saturday at Cheltenham, we were sharper and a little but more aggressive in our play,” said Steve after the game. “It’s our second game in and we were pleased with it and pleased not to pick up any injuries.

“We had a couple of little tweaks in training which was Micah Hyde and Danny Karbassiyoon. Danny’s was a little bit worse than Micah’s and we could have used Micah if we had pushed him, but we were better off leaving him until Saturday.

“John McGreal came off at half time with a bit of a tight hamstring but all in all, we are pretty pleased so far.”

He was also quick to point out that playing at Stanley, who had already played three games, was a tough challenge. “Anybody who comes to Accrington will have a tough game because they’re run by some good, honest lads, and at times I thought they passed the ball quite well.”

The only downside was the two strikers not scoring and he concluded by saying, “We were very pleased with the goals and the only disappointment was that Ade and Gifton didn’t get any for all their toil tonight. But they will do and I thought they were excellent as a partnership again.”
