We were just off it today so I'll take that point

Home boss Howe thought his team edged it over the ninety minutes and that they deserved to take all three points. "I felt we had the majority of the chances," he said after the final whistle.

"Franno (Simon Francis) hit the bar at the end and Yann (Kermogant) had a header that's just gone wide and there were a few other moments. I think we had the best moments in the game.

"We got the goal and you did hope we could catch them hunting an equaliser, but their goal has come out of nothing. I don't think we really switched off. It was just one of those things, it took a deflection off the cross and fell nicely for the boy.

"I felt we defended well and I could see the game finishing 1-0, and everyone patting everyone on the back saying what a great performance and a great defensive performance we had put in, because it was.

"It was a game of few chances and we are frustrated as we felt we should have won it."

Howe added: "We planned for it and we knew the pitch would be in a bad state if the game was on. We adapted our tactics and I don't apologise for that.

"By playing 4-4-2 we tried to stop the direct balls forward by playing with two strikers and we also tried to get down the sides of their centre halves, purely due to the conditions, so the crowd unfortunately saw a game which lacked the usual quality.

"We usually play a lot better football than that but I felt we had to adapt."

Dyche, I am sure, was happy to get something from the game, and he said: "It's a point well earned because we were way below our best today.

"I must say the pitch had its part to play though. That's arguably one of the worst pitches I've seen in the Championship. That's through no fault of Bournemouth because the weather here has been interesting to say the least.

"They have tried to make it the best they could, but it affected the game massively, certainly on our behalf."

He accepted we hadn't played well though and added: "We have built an amazing mentality here and when we had five or six way below par, we've come away with a point and that is a really pleasing aspect about our group.

"We have a group that can carry us even on a bad day and it has certainly carried us today.

"There was no sign of us wilting or going under after they scored, so I come away weirdly delighted, not with the performance but with the outcome.

"You can't play as well as we have done every single week and we have put together a run of very good performances over the last seven or eight tames and got our rewards."

He added: "It was nice for Keith to get a goal and Ross to kind of set it up, with the aid of a deflection, but we encourage our wide players to get in to the back post areas and it was a great run and finish on that pitch.

"It was very difficult for the talented players we have out there today. I felt they played the conditions better. They were slightly more direct and used the ball wider to try and get in behind us, but like I say, it wasn't about that.

"We were just off it today, so I'll take that point because it's a valuable one and seven points in a week is another big statement for what we are trying to achieve here."
