We were in control and bossed the game

I've never quite understood why anyone should show too much interest in the rantings of Dave Jones after a game. I once recall playing Cardiff off the pitch only to hear from Jones after the game that we'd been outplayed.

Last night, he stunned me with his comments about the referee on the radio, heard as we pulled away from the stadium. Roger East had had very little to do and it could have been nothing more than the usual Jones excuse coming out.

He did admit however, that the referee hadn't cost them, although the deluded man thought Cardiff were in top in the first half. He said after the game: "It was a difficult game and we probably should have seen it out but the manner we conceded so late on was very disappointing.

"It was the only time we switched off but they have good players and we gave the ball away far too easily during the second half. It was a soft goal to give away and you cannot leave the near post unattended. If it was from the centre of the goal then fair enough but not from that position.

"I don't think the referee had a good game as he didn't let the game flow but that is not the reason we have drawn the game as we should have gone for the jugular in the first half when we were well on top."

Eddie Howe knew that we'd been the better side for all but the opening period and admitted that there was some disappointment that we hadn't followed up the win at Watford with another victory on the road.

"We are a bit disappointed we haven't taken all three points to be honest," he said after seeing substitute Steven Thompson head home an equaliser seven minutes from the end of normal time.

"I am obviously biased, but I thought we did enough to win the game. Bar the first 15 or 20 minutes, when Cardiff started well, I thought we were in control and bossed the game.

"We perhaps didn't have the clear cut chances we would have liked, but overall I can't complain after being one goal down.

"I thought we controlled midfield and bossed possession, especially in the second half and I am delighted with the character of the lads to come from a goal down. This is a difficult place to come, so I think overall we have to be happy with our work. It's a really positive step and keeps the little run going."

Speaking about the Michael Chopra goal that gave Cardiff the lead right on half time, he said: "There are many aspects of their goal we are unhappy with. The timing wasn't ideal because we got ourselves back into the half and had been the better side.

"To allow a striker to take a touch in the box was disappointing as well, but I was delighted at the response.

"Lee Grant also deserves a lot of credit for the save from Bothroyd. He is a fantastic shot stopper who makes crucial saves and he kept us in it early with a couple of saves after we struggled to get out of the blocks."
