We really do come alive under the lights

Holloway felt that it was just the first half performance that cost his side as the Clarets stormed into a two goal lead and of the second half he said: "The next goal was absolutely vital and we didn't get it. We had three of four opportunities to get it, which we didn't look like creating in the first-half but did in the second.

"It's a shame we didn't turn up with that same sort of approach and positivity after we let a goal in - and that's what our Achilles heel is at the minute. At the end of the day that was a lot closer than it seemed, we should have finished off our chances and that would have been a much better second-half. The first-half cost us.

"We needed that goal in the second-half, the third goal of the game. If we'd have got that then everything would have changed because parts of that looked like us.

"There are people who I expected to do a bit better than they did today. Too many of my players didn't play well, and to win at this level you need at least eight to be absolutely on their game. They can carry the other three.

"We've now got to stand up and be counted - myself and the team. I thought the fans were terrific and stuck with us."

For Howe, it was two successive league wins to follow the two defeats and after the game he said: There was a good atmosphere in the ground and we really do come alive under the lights. We created a good atmosphere among the crowd with how well we started and got some great balls into the box.

"In the first half we were outstanding. We really pressed them and made it hard for them to settle in the game and we looked a real threat going forward. In the second half we had to put bodies on the line and you have to give Blackpool credit. They came back at us and we defended for our lives.

"It's just disappointing that we missed out on a clean sheet, but that's just me being me, I suppose, but we scored three great goals and perhaps could have had another one, but it's a big three points and back to back league wins.

"That's twice we've done that now this season, so the signs are looking good. It gives everyone a lift. We know we are not the finished article and we still have improvements to make, but I hope people can see what we are trying to do and we haven't seen what this team is capable of because there is still a lot of improvement in the players.

"We are still early in forming this team and there is so much more to come from individuals and collectively."

Charlie Austin gave Burnley the lead and Howe said of him: "Charlie just gets better and better in my opinion. You can put balls in the box and nine times in ten he's on the end of it. He is scoring goals and his partnership with Jay is still progressing.

"Junior is getting better -as that fantastic ball for the first goal shows. and Ross has had an excellent start to the season and scored a wonder goal, so the attacking options are looking good."
