We played far better on Saturday and lost

It was Chris Coleman's first away game in charge of the Sky Blues and after seeing his side beat Leicester on Saturday at the Ricoh it was also his first defeat and he took some of the blame for this result himself.

"I'm disappointed that we conceded both goals from set-pieces but it is a learning curve for us," he said. "It is fair to say that this result has brought everybody down to earth with a bang after the win against Leicester City, but I knew when I came into the club that it wasn't going to be easy and there would be set backs along the way.

"There isn't time to mope about because we have another important game away at Scunthorpe United on Saturday. I changed the formation three times during the game so maybe a little bit of it is my fault because the players don't know how we work and what we expect of them. That will come with time."

Owen Coyle described it as ugly football but was happy enough to see the Clarets get back to winning ways after the defeat at Plymouth. "I didn't think it was one of our more fluent performances, but the result was all-important tonight," he said. "We played far better on Saturday and lost at Plymouth, such is the nature of the Championship.

"I thought we deserved to win over the course of the game. Normally I think both teams are attack-minded, they like to get the ball down and play. Whether the wind and the pitch weren't conducive to that I'm not entirely sure but there seemed to be a lot of unforced errors by either side and passes going astray.

"Over the game though I felt we deserved the three points, and they're three important points because it pushes us right to the tail-end of the play-off positions that are much talked about, so we're delighted with that and it sets us up for another home game on Saturday."
