We never got to the standards we have set previously

Gunn saw his side come up against a very much under par Burnley and watched them take the lead before having to settle for a point. The recently appointed Gunn has seen his side drop into the bottom three and would have hoped for all three points from this game.

"It's always going to be a battle against teams like Burnley," he said. "They play fairly direct and they've got a system with they use and use well. I've already said to Owen Coyle that they will be in the promotion shake-up at the end of the season.

"They manage to get the same eleven out on the pitch every week and that's a part of the lucky side of being a manager, when you've got a settled side and you've got those quality players that you can bring on as well. They often get results late in the game, but we stopped them doing that today and I think we can take credit for that.

"I think we went out on that pitch today believing we could get three points and the players are disappointed in the dressing room at the fact that we didn't take them. At the same time we need to take a positive from it, we battled away and got a point against a team that continued to play for the duration, and that showed when Chris Eagles had that chance late in the game.

"We had the better chances and if it wasn't for their big keeper Brian Jensen who pulled off a couple of tremendous saves, we certainly could have got the three points. I think the lads have worked really hard and have achieved something today, they've got that point and what we need to do now is take all three when we get the opportunity."

Owen Coyle, like the rest of us, thought we were going to win it in stoppage time. "I fancied Chris to win it at the end," he said. "Knowing the quality he has, then as soon as he is one-on-one with the goalkeeper it is going to be a goal.

"I don't know if it bobbled up or not, but he had a terrific impact when he came on and when we get him over that chest infection then it augurs well for the run in."

Coyle added: "My big disappointment overall is that we never got to the standards we have set previously. But we have no divine right to think we can go anywhere and win three points. We have to earn it and I don't think we did.

"I thought it was quite uneventful for the opening ten minutes and then to be fair to Norwich they had the impetus. They scored a good goal, albeit we could have defended it better, and then, if truth be told, there was a spell where Brian Jensen has made a couple of big saves.

"They had a head of steam, so we tried to change it slightly by moving players about to see if we could get a foothold. We managed to do that and scored a good goal.

"In the second half they had the bulk of the chances and Brian had a couple of saves we would expect him to save. Then, in the last five minutes we would have ended up winning it and if I'm honest that would have been a travesty.

"The two centre backs and Brian stood up to everything and we showed tremendous character. To a man they defended the box when they had to and all that was missing is that we didn't show enough quality as I would expect.

"But that's another game unbeaten and as long as that continues it will keep us up near the top of the table and ready to push on."
