We need to be in a better position

Burley saw his side get back to winning ways in no uncertain terms on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over bottom of the league Portsmouth but realises it is going to be a tougher game for his team against Burnley.

"Burnley have a strong squad of players, and will be one of the favourites for promotion this season," he said. "They haven't lost many players from their spell in the Premier League. It will be a tough game but we are at home and I feel we have been playing well at home.

"I am sure we have gained confidence from the good win against Portsmouth, so I think it is going to be another cracking game. I can see there will be a number of goals and it is going to be end to end but one we will be trying to win.

"There are still things for us to work on but it was encouraging against Portsmouth, we managed to get more support for James Vaughan that we did at Reading, but it as a tough league, every game is difficult, but I think the fans are enjoying the style of football we are playing and hopefully we can keep turning that into points."

Burnley are in sixth place in the league because of the home results, with only one point picked up from three games on the road, something Brian Laws wants to put right. "We are disappointed because we should have got more out of our away games," he admitted.

"But we haven't and we have to address it quickly. You can't just rely on your home form. You have to pick up points away from home. But we will get there. We will win games away from home, for sure. I'm very confident of that and so are the players.

"Their disappointment at Middlesbrough showed that they want to bounce back and we have a good opportunity against Crystal Palace. There's nobody feeling down or feeling that when we go away from home we're not going to gain anything.

"We are going into these games thinking we are going to win them. That's how we approach them. We have got good players and if we keep producing the performances then hopefully the results will follow so that there's definitely no negativity whatsoever regarding our away form.

"We are in a good position but we need to be in a better position and that means going to Crystal Palace and getting the right result."

Laws, aware of the excellent away support that saw over 1,300 at Middlesbrough on Tuesday, added: "All the players and staff recognise the hard work the supporters put in. It will be hard work for them to get down to London and we appreciate that kind of support again. We will be striving to give them something to come back with.

"It was an outstanding following at Middlesbrough and we are grateful of the support our fans give us home and away. These people spend their time and their money to come and support us and we need to make sure that we give them just reward for that.
