We just need that killer edge

We went into the game with just one point from the last two games, but Bolton's recent form has been worse than ours and today was their first league victory of 2013.

Freedman said afterwards:  “It was a good team effort today. We stuck at it and were very determined to get the result. We had to dig deep. We did that and we deserved the win.

“We performed fantastically well, and over the last four or five matches we have been very unlucky with the results.  Today we created some good chances and were disappointed to go behind. We stuck at it, showed good character and kept our momentum up.

“Burnley were technically good throughout the 90 minutes and have a talented group of players, but we kept them quiet and dealt with their threat. We put their goal under pressure in both halves and they were forced into a couple of last-ditch clearances off the line.

“We felt that it was a tight game in the midfield. I am paid to make brave decisions and I am not afraid to make them. I have done it as a player and I will certainly do it as a coach.

“As the game went on I felt that we had to change the dynamics in the final half hour. David Ngog was key to doing that. Him drifting around the midfield helped open up the game a bit. I am not going to shy away from making decisions, and I will always try to do my best for the football club.

“The route to success I believe is to continue to work hard and prepare the best we can. This is a group of players that have got the bit between their teeth. The way we have played over the last three games shows that and I believe that we will continue to get better."

Sean Dyche admitted to being frustrated after the game having seen us lose the lead and all three points.

"The players have given all they can to win a game today and for a lot of the game we went about it in the right manner," he said. “We delivered some really good stuff, but the big disappointment is we didn’t keep the ball better after going 1-0 up.

“One of our strengths is controlling a game. We just came away from that and they have players who cost millions of pounds, who changed the game. It’s a really tough one to take. There are a lot of good signs here, but we are disappointed and if we really mean business, those are the games we have to take control of once we go ahead and kill games off.”

He continued: “There is a bravery in that, but we demand here and we demand more, so the real frustration is it was a missed opportunity. We are itching to get those points and the sleepless night will be there tonight, thinking if only we’d done this or that.

“We spoke to the players after the game about being the man who makes the difference. We just started looking at each other wondering who was going to keep the ball. The main thing at that stage was possession and we just went away from that, but the players here are learning and the players have delivered more often than not.

"There was no lack of effort, the organisation was generally good, there was a will to win with great backing from the fans. We just need that killer edge."
