We have to see the job through now

Yesterday brought with it a ten point penalty for the Saints and Wotte realises that points gained in their last two games could mean a clean start in League One next season rather than starting with a ten point deficit.

"I was devastated when I was told about the decision," Wotte said about the penalty. "But now we need to try and take the positives from it and use this decision to find the motivation to start the new season today.

"I have found another source of inspiration and our new goal is now to give Southampton a fair chance of coming straight back up and the best way to do that is to win our last two games.

"I'm not into negative thinking, and we've beaten other teams who have been chasing the play offs, so there's no reason we can't do it again if we play at our best. It's all about results now and even if it's an ugly win then we will be very happy on Saturday.

"I think everyone knows that we cannot have two games in a row like the one against Sheffield Wednesday, so I know that the boys will perform well and do everything to win the game.

"Everyone knows that we have good players and the ability is there, but it's also about showing mental strength in difficult situations. Switch off the negative and switch on the positive, so then you can play well.

"I know that the players are very committed, even if it doesn't show all the time to fans. Sometimes you have an unlucky game or don't play well together, but I know the effort they put in on the training ground.

"We have 22 players available for the last training session before Burnley and I will pick the sixteen from that. It's good that you can do that when you are in the bottom three, because some players might back out and say 'It's too hot for me', but I have 22 players who are all fighting for a starting position, and would be disappointed not to be in the starting eleven. That's what I like and that's what makes me proud to work with this bunch of lads."

Owen Coyle is hoping his Burnley team can pick up the three points tomorrow that we need to ensure a play off place. "It's the biggest game of the season," he said. "It's as simple as that."

He continued: "The motivation is there for us to get to the play offs, which is unchartered territory for the club in terms of trying to get back to what is now the Premier League.

"In terms of finance, size of clubs and everything else in the Championship maybe a lot of people wouldn't have felt we would be up at the top end, although we always believed we were capable of doing it.

"After three our four games a lot of people wouldn't, but we've shown our mettle and character and our undoubted quality, and that's what we have to bring now. All we've done is put ourselves in a good position, we now have to see that through.

"We've had big, big games all season and we've loved every minute of it, but the bottom like is we can't affect what's behind us. We can only go and try and get three points at Southampton that would ultimately push us into those play offs.

"That's got to be the focus, and I'll be stressing that to the players. We have to see the job through now, and to do that we'll have to be at our best."
