We have to defend as a team

Grayson enthused about the game and his team's performance and was quick to praise Burnley also for the way we approached the game with, in his words, both sides wanting to play the game correctly, getting the ball down on the floor and playing a passing game.

"We try and play the right way and Burnley try the play the right way," he said. Our lads just kept on going and got the result we fully deserved. It was a cracking game with a fantastic atmosphere and some good football and full credit to the players as they never know when they are beaten."

Steve Cotterill agreed that the result was a fair one, and admitted that we just didn't do enough to win the game. "We just weren't good enough today and that's why we didn't win the game. We looked at times as if we were a could of gears down and we didn't pass the ball anything near as well as we did at Colchester.

"If you look at the two players that have gone away and played games this week, like Graham Alexander, and like Michael Duff, I think they were pegged down, certainly in the first half, down on what they can do. We know what everyone will do better and we just need to do better collectively in certain circumstances."

We conceded two goals again and Cotterill said of the defending. "If you look at the back four today, we've conceded two goals, but when I look at all of them I think they've done okay. I think they've covered each other very well today, done most of the things that defenders have to do, got the tackles in, got the headers in, got blocks in. But they got the ball into our box too easily, and that's cost us."

Like everyone else he was disappointed at the manner of Blackpool's second and certainly the timing of it. "We were very much on course for three points and that is what makes it more disappointing. Sometimes it leaves a bitter taste with the manner of how it happened.

"Having said that, quite probably I would look at today's game and I would way I don't think we deserved to win the game. I think a draw was a fair result. I thought in patches we played some good football but we have to defend as a team and we didn't do that today."

Both our goals came from two players introduced as substitutes but the manager was taking no credit for that. "Sometimes you make a couple of substitutions and they work but next week I may put two on that people will say were the wrong choices. So I won't be taking the plaudits for it."
