We have to bridge that gap

Norwich boss Paul Lambert, linked with the Burnley job at the beginning of this year, has seen his side make a good start to the new season after winning League One in 2009/10, and he's looking forward to getting back to winning ways after losing at Cardiff last week.

"We have to try and bounce back and we're at home so hopefully he crowd will drive us on well," he said. "It is another really tough game against a team that has just come down from the premier League. They've kept the nucleus of their side and there is no doubt that this will be really, really tough, but it will be a great challenge for us.

"I know there is a long way to go, but I certainly think Burnley will be up there at the end of the season due to what they've done so far and their season in the Premier League. But we are at home and we are playing well enough to go and try and win the game.

"I can't ask for anything more from our start so far. The way the lads are playing and their hunger for the game, I can't ask for anything more. Results either go for you or they don't but effort-wise I can't ever point the finger at anybody."

Brian Laws sees his side nine points behind the top two but when asked if that gap can be closed he said: "Of course it can. It's the Championship we are talking about. You have seen run aways early in the season and they pull back.

"Look at QPR. They were running away in the early part and have been pulled back and been over-taken and it will be no different as the season goes on.

"I think the one team that you would say looked likely to get one of those top two spots could be Cardiff because of the strength of the team and the quality they have going forward. They have had a beautiful gift given to them by Manchester City, a £5 million gift in wages for a player who shouldn't even be in this division.

"It shows that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. They have been knocking on the door for the last two or three years as well. I think they are the most consistent ones so far."

Laws accepts that the run of draws away from home is costing us and added: "I am concerned because we deserve more than we have got. The performances have shown that and I'm disappointed we haven't got more points because we should be right up there with those top two, no question about it.

"However, it hasn't happened and yes there is a gap there. You don't want it going too far so we have to keep in there and claw away at it and take points off the teams that are up there. We have to bridge that gap and we have to do that sooner rather than later.

"There's no better way than going to Norwich, and if we can get our first away win under our belts I think that will give everyone a lift and give us an opportunity to come back home and hopefully embrace it with another win.

"It's a tough ground to win at but I have a good record there, touch wood, so I enjoy going there. They have a fantastic home base where it's a sell out every week. No matter what division they are in there's always 20-old thousand there.

"The momentum they had last season has certainly continued and the players they have brought in this year have just embraced what they are doing. It's no surprise they are doing well. They will be a tough nut to crack. But I don't want to keep saying they are a good side because we are a good side too and they have a lot to worry about."
