We have to be at our maximum to get anything

Rafa Benitez will face Burnley for the first time in a league encounter and is hoping their comeback to win at Bolton two weeks ago will be the confidence lift they need to push up to the top of the league.

"The team as a team has not played at the level we can, but hopefully the win against Bolton will be a lift for us," Benitez said. "When you are not doing well you always need character, and the players showed character against Bolton.

"We controlled the game and although we conceded two goals, we scored three and came from behind to win. That is very positive and hopefully it will be a different situation for us now."

Looking forward to our visit to Anfield he added: "Burnley are a good team and have a very good group of players who know each other very well. When you see a new team in the Premier League playing the way they are, it shows the manager is doing a good job and it will be a tough game, like always in the Premier League.

They have beaten Manchester United and Everton and that shows they are doing well, so you never know - anything can happen in football. We have a lot of confidence and are sure we can win, but I think that maybe they will feel they can get some points too.

Having travelled to Chelsea last time out, this is another game Owen Coyle is looking forward to. "We have never made any claims about this and that," Coyle said. "We have said we have got a group of players we believe when at their maximum can win games and that's what we are continuing to look to do.

"Nobody gave us a hope at the outset of the season. People have now looked and said 'Do you know what? Burnley can play a little bit'. But we have to do that consistently, not for one or two games. We have to do that for the duration of the Premier League season and if we do that then it will sit well with me.

"When you beat anybody of the ilk of Manchester United and Everton it's always nice, but it's the same three points at Liverpool that are available to you at home against whoever and that's our focus and concentration.

"It's always nice from a confidence point of view for the players and everything else but what's paramount to this football club is winning points and making sure we stay in the Premier League."

It's been the international break and that means many of the Liverpool squad have been away from their club, as have five of our players. That brings with it the question of fatigue but the Burnley boss dismissed that.

"My concern is my team and I just look at what we can do to get the maximum from my group of lads," he added. "That's what I focus on, not whether there's any fatigue there.

"Rafa Benitez might be looking at it and thinking 'I hope Martin Paterson's tired. Who knows?' I just concentrate on Burnley and see what we can do. We are going to Anfield knowing we are in for a real game because they are a quality side. But we are not going there with fear.

"We are very respectful of the opposition and we know everything they will throw at us. We will have to stand up to that and counter that and look to play our own game.

"We are under no illusions about the enormity of the task but we are looking forward to it and excited about the prospect of going to Anfield. It's a measure of how far we have come that we are talking about Burnley going to Liverpool and hoping to achieve something positive from the game.

"We will try and be positive when we can. We have to be at our maximum to get anything and if we are then we have a realistic chance."
