We have got rid of two headaches

Leicester had been beaten at Luton on the Saturday and they were hoping for better in their first home game of the season but it didn't happen that way as manager Rob Kelly was quick to admit. “I am obviously bitterly disappointed after the game, and probably for the supporters more than anything,” he admitted.

“We know we didn't perform on the night to the standards that we would want for them. There are things we have got to put right, but we have to be careful. Everyone is raw after the game, and so they should be. It is not just the players and staff, we are all raw here.

“We have got a choice, we can brush it under the carpet or we can put it right, and put it right quickly. And that is what we will do. Our problems tonight were similar to what we had on Saturday against Luton and it is my responsibility because I pick the team and I put the players out there.”

Commenting on the winning goal, Kelly added: “It wasn't even a great delivery, but it showed you cannot switch off for a second. Having said that, Burnley deserved to beat us. We kept going as you would expect, but I don't think that covers up the fact that they hit the bar twice, so it could have been even worse.”

Steve Cotterill took his Burnley side to the club where he was coaching prior to coming to Turf Moor, and as was the case last season he saw his side record a 1-0 win to take it to six points from two games at the start of the season.

“Two wins out of two is a fantastic start for us, but we are not getting carried away with it,” he said after seeing an Andy Gray goal take the points. “We are delighted to get some points on the board because it did take us a long time last year and that ended up being something of a worry.

“It was a good team performance and in the end it was 1-0, but we have had one kicked off the line and we've hit the bar twice, so we could have had four goals before the break and in the second half we were only a whisker away from getting a touch for another. A second would have taken the pressure off but thankfully we didn't need it.”

It goes without saying that he was happy not to concede a goal but he was also quick to praise his strikers. “Clean sheets are always good and the back four deserve some credit, but at the other end it is always good if your strikers score and they have both got off to a start and that will help them. Andy Gray was more like his old self tonight and scored a great goal. He led the line well in what was a good team performance.”

Looking forward Steve said: “Managers always worry about the next game and so we now look to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and get on with that. We have got rid of two headaches; we've just got 44 more to go.”
