We have done our best

Stan was a relieved man but Preston boss Craig Brown was unhappy about most of the decisions in the game and thought his side deserved at least a point.

After the game Brown said, "We were denied a legitimate goal from Eddie Lewis’ free kick which crossed the line. It was a terrible decision by the referee’s assistant. "It wasn’t a foul from Chris Lucketti for the free kick which led to Burnley opening the scoring either. It was a magnificent header by Lucketti and I was right in line with it too.

"We were beaten, but you should only complain when you win and I do try not to encourage my players to protest.

"But I think a draw would have been a fair result. I think Burnley shaded it in the first half and I don’t think we deserved to be in front then.

"I was angry at the break but I was happy with the lads in the second half, we dominated the first 15 minutes and their keeper made two fine saves.

"The free kick was harsh on Michael Jackson for the free kick in the second half but it was well put away and so we lost the game, all credit to Burnley there".

Stan was relieved and happy to have finally broken through the 50 point barrier.

"It is always nice to win a derby match and I thought we fully deserved it. There have been a few bits and pieces the fans have not been happy with and I hope this win goes some way to repairing that," said Stan.

"Reaching the 50 point mark is very important to us because it means we will maintain our first division status. Probably 49 points would have done it but it is nicer to be on 52 and we still have half a dozen games left. We have done our best and that is all credit to the players.

"I hope this win can be a launch pad. We have had a really bad time of it since the quarter final of the FA Cup but we are a good team when we have got them all fit.

"It was a full blooded derby match and I thought we competed well. There were some very good individual performances. We got a couple of breaks which we haven't been getting, like when Driss headed the ball off the line but Bradford got the goal."

"At Gillingham two staff have gone. I've taken a massive wage reduction here and so has Sam. But the main thing is Burnley Football Club and the financial situation is the same at a lot of first division clubs".
