We delivered it again

Barnsley were unbeaten in three games going into the game and were confident of getting something from the game but manager Danny Wilson, after the game, bemoaned their lack of chances.

He said: "I think as far as application goes you can't really fault them. We didn't create as many chances as we have done in recent games and that's down to how Burnley played. You look how well they've done this season, a lot of them have been clean sheets.

"From our point of view it was difficult to create. We got some good opportunities and maybe turned them down at times. It was huff and puff at times and I'm disappointed how we gave the goal away."

Wilson added: "We're fighting for our lives at the bottom so there's going to be a lot of tenacious tackles and collisions. You've got to be really committed and I can't fault the players for that.

"We've got to do better in situations that we do create. We've still got to keep persevering and create the chances like we have done. Sometimes you've got to put balls in areas at times and not try and dribble past four or five players.

"We've got to aim to win the remaining games. There are 18 points available and we've got to aim for all 18."

Sean Dyche looked a very happy man as he strode onto the Oakwell pitch at the final whistle to salute the fans after a 1-0 win courtesy of a goal from Ashley Barnes, his only signing so far as Burnley manager involving a transfer fee.

He spoke generously of his team. "The tactical shape of the team, the professionalism, the energy, the belief and the work ethic was all on show," he said.

"We knew we had the quality to affect the game and we arguably could have killed it off with a couple of moments when we probably should've got a second.

"You have to be professional about the way you go about your performance. They really put it on top of us second half and we had to deal with it, and we had really good moments of counter attacking play."

We kept Barnsley out to such an extent that Tom Heaton didn't have a save to make. Dyche added: "We never really looked in trouble. I thought the back four were outstanding and Tom did what he had to do when he needed to do it.

"I'm really pleased with the defensive framework of the team, as I have been since I've been here. We just had to find that balance with that and an attacking threat, and how the players work from that defensive framework in order to attack. I think that's developed as the season has gone on.

"We know we can win games in different ways. I told the players in pre-season how important that is to have that in your locker, and I thought that was on show tonight, when it needed to be tactical, when it needed energy, belief, spirit and moments of quality we delivered it again."
