We created enough chances to win three games

Posh boss Darren Ferguson saw his side recover from an early goal to lead 2-1 before the Clarets went on to win the game 5-2 and he admitted after the game: "Pure and simple, we're conceding too many goals.

"I can persevere with them or replace them (the defenders). I can replace them from within. Unfortunately they are not listening to me.

"It's really unlike me to criticise my players in public. Normally what I say to them in the dressing room is kept there, but we simply aren't defending well enough. I've tried different combinations to get it right but it's not been working.

We've looked at the loan market. I'll talk to the chairman, and I've got other bodies in the building that can start. We go through things in training time and time again. If they don't want to listen to it then they won't play.

"It's six defeats in a row. It's embarrassing now and we have to do something about it. It's the same old clichés, rolling our sleeves up and so on. We'll pick them up and go again, but I've got some key decisions to make about who to use in defence.

"At 2-1 I thought it was a real opportunity to go and win the game, but if you defend like that you'll get nothing."

Burnley boss Eddie Howe started by trying to claim a hat trick for Charlie Austin, despite the fact that our second goal, credited as a Michael Bostwick own goal, looked to be heading wide until the defender turned it in.

He said: "I've been signing the match ball in the dressing room, so that tells you what Charlie thinks. Those goals are the hallmark of him and we have to try and give it to him. He deserves it because he shows in training all the time what a great finisher he is."

On the game he said: "It was a crazy game; really open game and both sides will probably think they could have scored more on the day.

"From our point of view, we created enough chances to win three games, but somehow we found ourselves 2-1 down after being the dominant side.

"We were scratching our heads and it was a real test for the players, because there were a few groans from the stands, but they blocked all that out and showed immense character by digging in.

"As I've said when we've lost though, there are fine margins and in the end we are pleased to come from behind and get the five goals, although defensively we know we have things to work on.

"I say this all the time, but we don't get carried away, win or lose. We have had a tough couple of weeks and faced a lot of criticism but even when you win you look at things you need to work on.

"We weren't as solid defensively as we want to be and that's not just the back four, it's midfielders letting runners go too. So there's plenty to work on."
