We can only worry about ourselves

Reading boss Brian McDermott has now seen his side come out on top against Burnley for a third time and said after the game: "It was really pleasing and it's a massive result. We played some really good stuff at times, we created chances and deserved to win against a really good side.

"We had opportunities early and late in the game, I also thought we defended well, the back four was excellent. So it was a really good team performance and a fantastic result.

"It was two honest teams playing good football, there was good ability on both sides, we edged it in the end, we had got stronger as it went on. We did well on a pitch that was a bit lively after we had rugby on here a couple of days ago, we had a problem with the pipes and couldn't get any water on it so we're working on that.

"I don't know about the players, but after four games in nine days I was knackered! You've got to give full credit to everybody in the Championship after that fixture list. We've got seven points from twelve, so we're happy enough, although we feel hard done by not getting anything from Swansea."

Stuart Gray knows his Burnley side should have got something from the game. Afterwards he said: "All credit to Brian McDermott. He has got them playing and this is a difficult place to get a result.

"But I felt we dominated the play and the chances and coped with them quite well and it's a quiet and disappointed dressing room. The effort and commitment was fantastic today and how we have come away with nothing leaves a bitter taste.

"We have gifted them two goals and a lack of concentration has cost us, but some of the play when we carved them open left me thinking it was only a matter of time. A lot of those chances were gilt edged chances and we really should be finishing them, but if you don't get it right in both boxes you suffer."

Speaking about the missed chances, and those from Dean Marney in particular, Gray added: "Dean will be beating himself up, but at the end of the day he has timed his runs and is getting into the positions and he hasn't missed them deliberately."

Gray was then asked about the line up. "We made several changes, as Jay had been struggling and Chris Iwelumo had a tight hamstring," he said. "But all credit to all the lads who came in and it was nice to see Ross getting a goal and good to see Steven Thompson putting in a performance as well.

"This league is a strange one in terms of result and it's going to stay wide open. But we can't worry about the other teams, we can only worry about ourselves and we had a great opportunity here to come away with three points and we are going away with nothing."
