We can go there and win

It is just six weeks since we beat Argyle at the Turf to bring to an end a run without a win and Sturrock looks back on that game and the Plymouth performance with little enthusiasm. "It was our worst performance since I got here and left a bad taste in the mouth," Sturrock said.

"It would be nice to get a wee sweetener on Saturday and I would like to think there will be a nice taste in fans' mouths and they will come along for what will be a difficult game against Burnley.

"Their away form has been excellent and they have got some quality players who hurt us last time. There are some big questions to be made on selection and a lot of things to weigh up before the game. We have got to get on a run here because, if we are going to be there or thereabouts come the end, we have to make Home Park a fortress.

"There has never been a time when I wrote off our chances. I was always positive in my approach because I felt we could still muster a challenge. The players now believe in themselves a lot more after the disappointment of January which was a stern test for them. The freshness of new players coming in has probably regenerated some of them as well."

Meanwhile Owen Coyle has urged his players not to throw away the opportunity they have earned themselves with an eight place placing and fourteen games to go.

"It is an important time now as we come into the last third of the season," he said. "This is where your league position will be determined. It is fine to do well initially, but we don't want to see it fall away now. We want to keep putting in the performances because if we do that we will keep winning games.

"It has been well documented that there are some big, glamorous clubs in the Championship but we are in awe of nobody. We are very respectful but we have players who can win games and we want to make sure we finish the season strongly. We are not here to make up numbers. We are up there on merit and we have to keep showing that."

Speaking about the trip to Plymouth he added: "It's a difficult game against a team that we beat here not too long back. They brought a few players in last week to freshen the team up and they had a great win at Southampton, so we know that with the opposition and with the long journey it will be a tough game, but if we are at our best we can go there and win that game."
